Metric Tank Volume Calculator (Std)

This calculator may be used to calculate the volume of a square or rectangular aquarium. Knowing your water volume is the first step in ensuring that your treat your aquarium with the correct dosage of chemicals and medications if required.

This calculation is made based on an empty tank, no substrate, plants or other items. Hence a small allowance (approx 10-15%) needs to be made for such things.

Moonlights

Why is the tank blue at night?

I use 4 underwater LED spotlights to illuminate the tank at night, to simulate moonlight and to provide limited nighttime viewing while allowing the fish some peace.

These lights are situated just below the water level and actually point up, out of the water, into the main light's reflector. This reduces the brightness signifigantly, and also means the water has a nice shimmerring effect much like it would with light shining down from above.

In the future I am planning to modify the hood to include the lights so they give a more even illumination and can be taken out of the tank, the less 'stuff' cluttering up the tank the better.

Where can I get lights like yours?

I bought mine from Jaycar, a local electronics shop. They have them online...
